What's the going rate for a not so pimped out one? Just a standard MSI one for example

Standard meaning the FE cards here? Well for consistency NCIX US is charging $450 (£313.39)

Right now both AMD and Nvidia do in their own way. Nvidia have the high end, and AMD have the low. Of course, Nvidia also have last generation to make up for the absence of a 1060 or below, so they have the advantage over AMD here.

I think Nvidia are making it clear how benevolent Intel have been with their own monopoly these last five years.

Oh I completely agree, the Intel chips have always argued their increase in price by the performance of them. I know the new nvidia GPUs are incredible inside, I just can't justify why they feel the need to bend us all over with the price difference like that

Have Intel prices increased? I know they did with Skylake, but that felt like an anomaly, and they didn't stay as high as they launched. Even the extreme (I say Extreme, I really mean all X*9) stayed pretty much the same price once you took currency fluctuations into account right up until the 10 Core this generation.

I like having the money in my bank, I honestly hate seeing it go down, just love to save up. I suppose you gotta do all that saving for something though right? It's okay for me because I'm only 18, just finishing college atm, the only expenditure I have is car tax, petrol, etc... the rest is just for fun :D

I still don't understand why people thought $ =/= £

It has been like that with nearly every tech for as long as I can remember. I guess a lot of people who are complaining are new to tech though

It's never by this much. A $1000 Intel extreme-platform CPU tends to cost £600-£800. That's within what you'd expect given currency fluctuations. Even graphics cards aren't usually the £200 delta we're seeing this generation.

It's never normally cheaper to have the card imported from the US, pay the tax and import costs yourself than buy it locally, which it tends to be with Pascal.

no it doesn't , its the consumers that lose.  but this is what we are stuck with atm

The RX 480 will hopefully be decent but yeah it's kinda a shame that AMD didn't have something to truely compete with Nvidia right now. I hope Vega does come this year but if it doesn't for a lot of people they're either going to have to fork out the extra money for a GTX 1070 or lose some FPS with with RX 480, which right now might be what I'm looking at because there's no way I could save up enough money to get a $600+ GPU.

Oh like the G1 from Gigabyte? That's like US$590. Interestingly Zotac's AMP! GTX 1070 costs $450.

The price difference is the added duties and tax, once you add those and convert it comes to £400 ish.. Prices will drop some as more and more stock fill the lines.

The 1060 or 480 should be good at your price.. we are at the start of a launch cycle so the competition will fill out.. AMD dropped the ball a bit by going lower end first as the $ to performance of the 1070 makes everything else suck BUT it should help them develop a better high end chip eventually but that could be 6 months away. If the 480 lives up to they hype though it should be perfect for a HUGE swathe of the market BUT I think the 1060 will compete. All just opinion till we see tests of each card as they release them.

What's really worrying/annoying me is that by the time that happens and AMD finally have something to knock the 1080 from it's pedestal, Nvidia will just release GP 102 and do the exact same thing again. And this time AMD won't have a Fury X to go toe-to-toe with it. Unless, of course, Vega turns out to be as full a range of high end products as Polaris was low end. But we'll see.

That costs £630, which is ~$900. This is my argument, how does the $300 increase between here and the USA come from differences in tax or whatever else could be effecting it, surely it doesn't. It's ridiculous, really is

Hmm. Yeah that is interesting, it's still an expensive card here too, I wasn't expecting it to cost upwards of $500. Considering the GTX 970 sat at about the same price point as the R9 390 does ($310) but right now the 970 is pretty cheap but that's because Nvidia cut prices on the 900 series cards.

Ohh brilliant. I'm so excited, gonna get a nice shiny 4790k, new mobo and be gone with my shitty FX 4170. I bought it 5 years ago, when I knew nothing about PCs and it was the cheapest bundle on eBay with 4 cores... what a mistake that was

Ohh my your preaching my life right now ! i did the same thing, i currently have a 4790k, did have a FX 8320.
