This is my first time TRYING to put together a gaming PC build.

I believe I have all the components I want for it, but I am EXTREMELY cautious about choosing a PSU.
Calculators have shown me that a recommend PSUs are in the 550w range, which might be way more than enough to power an i5-6500 with an RX 480 (when released) and the rest of the system too.

I definitely do not want to cheap out on the power supply, and I am debating between the Corsair RM550x and the EVGA Supernova 550G2.  IF there are other great PSUs with similar wattage, let me know!
I would like some input into this, because I really do not want a dead PSU within months or even a few years of purchase, you know?
Something that'll last, at the very least, 6 years.  I might want to extend that to maybe 8-10 years, even though it would definitely be time for an upgrade.
Defects and DOAs are what terrify me about making a decision, but I understand that it can happen with technology.

Please, share your thoughts.

the RMX series and supernova G2 series are pretty solid choices for most builds. The wattage you've selected is also more than enough. Realistically your computer would probably not even touch 300W under full load with 6500 and 480. No, thats not an excuse to get something at lower wattage. Unless you're really budget, you shouldn't go below 500. Those PSU's are rarely good quality.

As for deciding between the two, they're both rock solid. Some people will say the G2 is better, some will say RMX is better. different reviews, different people, whatever. Realistically if you're not going to overclock your nuts off, any argument you could make between the 2 would be irrelevant.

Pick whichever one you think looks better, is more affordable, or whichever brand you fanboy harder for. They are both excellent choices for your system.

Both are good but the RMx has a rifle bearing fan and no Corsair Link which would have me actually lean towards (my personal favorite PSU) the RMi. Still wonder why Corsair decided to put a lesser fan in the RMx but whatever.

The G2 is just as good and is also a very safe pick. Both the Corsair and EVGA would likely last you 6 years if you wanted to.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
