So the full lineup of AMD's pascal gpu architecture was announced at E3. The Rx 480 will be the most powerful at just above the current power of a GTX 980.I am really disappointed that there will be no 490/X. I understand where they are coming from wanting to appease the masses but I feel that they are missing out on a chance to show off more powerful 14nm cards at prices that would potentially make them king of the hill for this years GPU wars.

It's a virtual certainty that those are coming.  You'll just have to wait a few more months (maybe a year) though.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

From the way they phrased it the 480/70/60 are the only three of the line. This is the first generation I've actually payed attention to from the get go but yeah.

Nope, their more powerful GPU will come next year VEGA 10. They are just waiting for HBM2 ;)
BTW NVIDIA has Pascal and AMD has POLARIS.

But why not release something to contend with the 1080/70 while everyone is on the upgrade wagon? I feel like by the time AMD releases something an enthusiast would want that market will be flooded with 1080/70s

As I said HBM2 plays big role for amd and actually Nvidia will release 1080ti and Titan by that time :D

Me personally will be upgrading to an RX 480. so people still will hop on the upgrade wagon if they want them performance for good $

They don't WANT to contend with Nvidia is why they don't. It doesn't make sense to. Currently, Nvidia has a massive market share. (I don't know the exact numbers, but lets say its 25%/75% in favor of Nvidia) It doesn't make sense to try to directly compete with them, spend all their money and time and resources only to maintain that 25% share. like any business, they want to take over the market! So what they decided was best was to make extremely affordable computer parts, that are still also pretty good for the budget 1080p user. This way they invite new people into the market, people who before didn't want a gaming computer because in order to get quality performance, they had to fork over too much for a GPU. but NOW its very VERY reasonable to get a 480 for 200 bucks and get rock solid performance out of your computer and really enjoy computer gaming at its finest.

The best part? 100% of these people buy AMD. they have (essentially) 100% market share of this new blood and budget PC builders out there. And there are a lot more "budget" PC users out there than those willing to drop 1000-1500 bucks on a computer. This also creates recurring customers. People who buy AMD now are (typically) more likely to buy AMD again in the future. Its actually a really good business decision if that's what they end up doing.

And saying that the market will be flooded when AMD rolls out high end cards doesn't make a lot of sense. people with 970's 980's and such often aren't upgrading now because its not a huge performance boost to the new current cards. But in a year or whatever when vega comes out and 1080ti +titans are dropping, then those people will upgrade. its a constantly occurring cycle. There will always be people looking to upgrade when good enough cards are released.

No fanboying going on here, I'm still team green. Just saying its a good move on their part.
