Ey!

What do you think about Nvidia g-sync? Do you think its worth buying very high priced monitors just to get the g-sync feature? Or do you think its overhyped, and should cost as less as freesync does?

WHat do you think about g-sync?

Im considering buying another g-sync monitor along with a possible gtx 1070(my first one had issues, so i did not get to test g-sync that much. The little i got to test, was not THAT impressive).

Intel Core i7 6700K@4,3GHz - Asus Z170 Pro Gaming - Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 - Evga SuperNova 750W PSU - Samsung EVO 500GB SSD - Gainward GTX 1080 GS - BenQ xl2411T 144hz - Cooler Master Haf-X Big Tower Nvidia Edition

I think its a bit overpriced, but I mean I love it on my laptop.  If given the choice though, I'd prefer FreeSync.

You shouldn't buy video card depending on what monitor you have. You should buy monitor depending on what video card you have. G-Sync and FreeSync are very similar, but generally G-Sync performs slightly better, but mostly not noticeable, which basically means comparing the two for performance means nothing unless you are Superman.

As for how useful it is, after experiencing frame matching feature on my monitor (G-Sync in my case) I will not purchase any monitor that does not have this feature in the future.

Whether its worth it to you greatly depends on your disposable income. If you can afford it and do not have to worry about feeding yourself for next few weeks, then go for it.

I currently use ASUS PG279Q.

I have been looking at it quite alot. But its quite pricey, and i have read that the quality control is not that good.

What do you think about it in terms of the high price tag?

When we are talking about any of these types of not-essential-for-life techs, it all just depends on your disposable income. If you have to worry about it, then don't get it. There are cheaper alternatives.

As for quality control issue, I have not experienced any negative issue, so at least I can say that its fine. Personally, I think it is greatly exaggerated, but there may be some quality control issue.

If you are in US, where you can freaking return a product within 1 month even after using it extensively, you can just buy it, try it, and return it if there are any issues. If you are elsewhere, then its up to you to decide whether you can deal with it in whatever way if the monitor is not in perfect condition.

I live in norway, and we have great return options, so i can try it if i want to. I have the economy to buy it, but it costs alot :P

i havent had IPS Since i had my 60hz screen a long time ago, so i do not remember what IPS feels like xD

I have recently upgraded from TN to IPS, actually it was a big jump in almost everything.

From

1080P, 60hz, TN

To

1440P, 144hz (165hz Overclocked), IPS

IPS does look nicer, but nothing to die for. Same thing with 1440P.

High refresh rate is what I feel the most that has the most impact. I actually sat and watched my mouse cursor moved so smoothly across the screen for quite some time when I first setup the monitor. LoL

Same thing with FreeSync monitors.

U are right about that! Well, i better make a thread about the 279Q and see if there are more people who like that monitor. If they do, i may buy one :P

thanks for your opinion!

Variable sync as a technology is a big win for gaming. For quite a number of years I have been increasingly concerned about microstutter in games for a variety of technical reasons it was becoming more common and since I used dual cards it was a problem more often than I would have liked. Then gsync released and it removed the problem I had, gsync eliminates the microstutter we see with dual card solutions and it also means I am happier with lower frame rates in certain games such as Arma 3. Its not overhyped its hard to describe the impact of the elimination of frame rate stutter but games are a lot nicer when they run smoothly and the image quality improvements of not having tearing is quite significant.

Where it becomes a question is freesync v gsync. Gsync is the superior technology in the sense it has a wider featureset like 3d vision and ULMB but it also behaves better with overdrive and at lower FPS. With gsync you can basically count on it being good with every monitor released, they all have issues but never with overdrive or the basics of how gsync actually works (just be aware some don't have 3d vision). But with Freesync you can't say that, most of them have issues with overdrive and that is a big problem for image quality and smoothness. With Freesync you have to talk about individual monitors and the problems they have because no one is ensuring they release with a high quality implementation, its with the manufacturers of the monitors and they don't so far seem to be doing all that good of a job.

So when it comes to choosing a monitor you need to look at comparing the individual ones with a high quality review (like that of tftcentral.co.uk). Regardless of which you ultimately choose you are going to get locked in to one vendors GPUs. Freesync is only available on AMD and gsync is only available on Nvidia and Freesync and AMD GPUs tend to be cheaper they also are not the highest performing parts. How much you would spend on a GPU and the associated performance is going to dictate which vendors cards you will want to be buying and that will impact your monitor choices. Nvidia as a solution is going to cost you more of that there is no doubt.

Because of all the positive reviews, i just ordered a pg279Q. I really hope its as good as people claim it to be :P It has g-sync and IPS(havent used IPS in 6 years).
