So I've been trying to create boot media for Windows 10 on a USB drive. I downloaded Microsoft's tool, selected the drive and it started formatting/setting it up. It's now been stuck on "getting a few things ready" for 20 ish minutes. Is this normal?

It could take a while depending on the speed of the drive, etc.  If it hasn't made progress in an hour, let us know :)

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Check the used and remaining space on the flash drive, and the IO activity in Resource Monitor.

Not sure where to find external I/O in Resource monitor. When I navigate to the USB the old files are still there, suggesting it hasn't even formatted. Not a good sign...

I'm not sure what to try at this point.  I'd pull out the drive, reboot, and try again.  And run a CrystalDiskMark on it (make sure to turn it down from 1 GB to something smaller like 100 MB) just for curiosity, so we can see if it's a decently fast drive or terribly slow.

I assume you mean reboot the computer? I'll try that. Also there are some files on it I needed, when I was backing them up it was running at about 17 MB/s.

I would remove those since formatting is going to erase them anyway, so better to do it on your terms instead of unexpectedly :)

Okay. So I tried closing the Windows installer thing and now it's saying "Setup is cleaning up before it closes, this may take a few minutes" Should I try and wait it out? With my luck it'll take another hour xD

Alright, ended it. All my files are still there so yeah idk what it was doing, I will delete them then reboot. Should I maybe uninstall then reinstall the Windows configuration thing before trying again?

Alright, try #2 and it's actually started downloading Windows this time, looks like it's working. I think the issue before might have been because I plugged in the USB after I ran the setup program.

Hm that could be.  Regardless that's dumb and it should have told you it wasn't working :P  But glad to hear it's looking up! :)

Just got back, it's now at 75% creating media. Something to note is that the drive has an activity light on the side that is on now, totally forgot it was even there. It wasn't on at all during the first try, so the drive wasn't even written to at all xD
