Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade my current build. Parts listed below

GPU: R9 390x

CPU: FX 8320 overclocked to 4.0 ghz

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Mobo: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

OS: Windows 7

PSU: Corsair CX 750M

So the reason I am looking to upgrade this build is because I believe the CPU may be bottlenecking my GPU.  According to my knowledge the 390x is a very powerful graphics card and should be able to handle pretty much any game out there at 1080p on a single monitor.  However games such as GTA V, Dark Souls 3, The Division, The Witcher 3 and Battlefield Hardline have been all running around 40 fps on medium-high graphics.  This has been very disappointing to me as I purchased this card expecting to be able to max out any game I play.  So anyways I have saved up some money and am looking to upgrade my computer in order to max out pretty much anything.  I play a wide variety of games and I am constantly buying new ones. One game that I certainly want to be able to enjoy at its maximum graphical potential is Battlefield 1.  I'm fairly dissatisfied with my AMD cpu because it seems like the majority of games that are coming out are optimized for intel and nvidia, since my brother who has a pc 3 years older than mine can play games at much higher graphics than I can.  I'm thinking I need to get an Intel compatible motherboard and buy a high end Intel CPU.  I can spend roughly $400-600, I can afford more but my parents frown on me spending money on this hobby.

What are your guys' suggestions for an upgrade path that will allow me to play current and upcoming games at 60 fps max graphics?

CPU is most certainly the problem here. You could switch platforms to intel, and get an i5 with compatible mobo., or you could get a beefier CPU cooler and do some serious OCing. Either would solve the problem to a certain extent. I'd upgrade the PSU as well.

Thanks for the replies, what would upgrading the PSU do? And would an SSD actually improve performance at all aside from loading screens and boot times?

PSU just because CX series is far from stellar, and has caused plenty of problems for people in the past. As for the SSD, no, just boot times and loading screens.

Upgrading to intel may be good.

The graphics card should run most games at 1080p on high even with that cpu ... odd.

The power supply is fine as you are nowhere near the limit on that. Dont bother upgrading that. Only may show problems closer to limit.

PS some features in GTA and other games can really tank the FPS on some cards ..i would reasearch and find those features and turn off to be able to max other ones instead.

Also you may want to overclock your GPU. That is free extra performance right there and there are plenty of tutorials online.

PS : the FX 8320 come stock with a 4GHZ turbo speed . so you may actually want to overclock that with a cheap yet effective aftermarket cooler. EG: hyper 212x.

(guides area again found online)

I think the CPU is fine as it is and should not bottleneck at all that system. If you look at benchmarks it does quite well.

Getting an SSD may help your system speed but not game FPS.

Good luck and feel free to ask me any more questions :)
