http://pcpartpicker.com/list/2Bbxr7 This computer would be used in my kitchen for watching shows and looking at recipes and what not. Plan on running thunderbolt 3 from hub in kitchen down to my server rack but have not figured out the technology quite yet. If anyone has any ideas on how to cut price without sacrificing too much or any other ideas hmu. Looking for overall opinion.

haha true but this computer will evolve a lot and probably at some point turn into a htpc.

That sounds like an even better case for the Pi. ;) While I'm not sure how well they'll handle 4K video, I've used my older Model 1A? I think? for a Plex streaming box and it keeps up quite well. I personally would just get one anyways and set it up as your family would want that all-in-one and laugh at them for wanting to spend over $700.
