Facebook and Messenger app problems

A few days ago I was searching through the web and my battery was draining quite fast, so the first thing i did was check battery usage in the settings. I found that after screen usage Facebook messenger was the next with 17% and cpu total of 3 hours and 23 min which seemed odd to me (I know it has to run in the background for you to receive messages, but not that intensively.  and Facebook in fourth after android os. Whenever i tried stopping both them, they came back up after 30 seconds. The worying thing is I spent about 10min in Facebook and 2 in messenger.  Are there any alternatives or fixes for both of  these apps

facebook and the messenger are a no-no, uninstall them.

and for alternative apps: 1) don't use facebook 2) use google hangouts/whatsapp for messages
