gtx 1070 fail

I went to fry's electronics with a friend and hour early and were 6th and 7th in line, and then they only had 5 1070's....at least we are first to receive some next shipment..

Sounds like nvidia rushed their launch out to get the jump on AMD but doesn't actually have enough cards to meet demand. Classic shady marketing.

there's nothing "shady" about it. how is Nvidia responsible for what fry's has in his particular city lol. and even if they sellout like the 1080's did, that's probably because Nvidia sent their chips to the board partners, and the board partners decided to make aftermarket cards out of them instead of "founders edition" cards, which takes longer for them to produce and finish... even if there isn't enough overall, how is that shady? its not like they're inflating the price because they decided to reduce supply with a high demand.

they wont have good stock either. their RX 480 is going to be so cheap that everyone and their grandmas are gonna be picking them up. they will fly off the shelves just like any of these cards (unless they get HORRIFIC benchmarks, which i seriously doubt will happen)

Well in EU, there is plenty of those cards in stock. FE that is.

But no1 wants to buy them because they cost 500€.

 

VAT and import taxes ... they can shove it where the sun never shines (unless you are doing kinky stuff)!

If there actually would be non-reference AMD cards right away that'd be at least something they're doing better than Nvidia.  

 

I'm still going to get a 1080 or 1070 but out of curiosity is the 480 the only new AMD card or will there be others?

There will be a full line of amd cards between Polaris and venga 

venga being the higher end cards

Amd were smart selling there best card for price to performance first

TDP of 150W so no need for a fancy extreme cooler. Gigabyte and others will probably slap a dual 6 pin and 3 fans and allow for some better overclocks.

Five? What a load of crap. I can understand the 1080 shortages because of GDDR5X yields, but how is a chip with 25% disabled and using very mature GDDR5 memory in short supply? The 1070 is so massively cut down from the 1080, this is ridiculous for a store to get five fucking cards.

Unless AMD has made their new cards run cooler than the space heaters older ones have been than I'd think non-reference coolers would be all but required.  I'm not saying AMD cards can't work well but everything I've heard is that they run very hot.

I ordered my 1070 on newegg, but I think I got extremely lucky because I just happened to check and evga card came up in stock, bought it, and then they went out of stock again.

 

OP will still probably get theirs in-hand before I do, I'm in Canada and the thing is shipping from the U.S., and I think they are shipping as mail parcel :/
