steam machine beta

so i have done everything to be eligible for the steam machine beta and was wondering 'if' i get a steam machine from valve do i then have to send it back to them?

No, you just have to report back how it feels and what could be changed.

In theory they ask it back at the end of the beta.

IIRC they pay for shipping except duty fees.

If you live outside the US, you need to pay extra at customs; this depends on the country and the type of item/declared value. The money, if any, is paid when the shipping company delivers it. 

 

I'd expect if there were significant hardware issues, they'd expect it back to be able to look into the defective prototype to figure out what's wrong.

Being Valve, I think they will just let you keep it!

i don't see Why valve would want them back, No use for them. Save for some specific issue which You report and they want to investigate.

Just curious, since it's going to be (steam OS) free from what I hear I can convert my current rig into my own steam machine when I build a new one correct?

Yeah as @Charger has stated, it was listed under the terms and conditions part (Or whatever it was called )

I'm almost positive you can, I'm sure there is a Q&A section somewhere about the SteamOS on Steam. If I recall correctly, I remember it said yes. I would find it but currently on my phone.

Edit: http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamOS/ - There is a part on there that states "It will be available soon as a free stand-alone operating system for living room machines."

So I should imagine yes, I'm sure there was a Q&A part though, can't find the bloody thing. Will look on Steam later.

The OS will probably become available at the same time people get their Beta Steam Machine.

Because people would just upload it when they get their Steam Machine.
