If you're a competitive player. 144hz is a must. If you just play casually I would go for 4k..

1920:1080 @144Hz is 2.4 times more pixels than 1920:1080 @60Hz

3840:2160 @60Hz is 4 times more pixels than 1920:1080 @60Hz

R9 390 will perform good enough for 144Hz 1080p gaming, 4k.. well... no, so +1 for 144Hz. Also the screen size you are looking at 4k is not a must have, so once again +1 for 144Hz. In my personal opinion a higher refresh rate goes over resolution, I would take the 144Hz one

If its CS:GO you should definitely go for 144hz, can make a big difference and feels really nice.

i don´t know about 1440p never seen it in person but it does not sound  like much of an upgrade from 1080p. and 1440p 144hz is way to expensive. and i do not think that my gpu can handel it well enough to utilize(use) the 144 hz

1920x1080 = 2.07 million pixels

2560x1440 = 3.9 million

its nearly TWICE as many pixels - the difference is night and day

personally I use a 1440p 60hz display, - worth considering IMO, much sharper than 1080p and no scaling issues like 4k

Personally I would go for 144Hz because you need a behemoth to run 4K to be honest I personally don't really care about 4K.

I would go for 1440p i use personally two Asus MG279Q , 144Hz , IPS monitors and there amazing there about 450 dollars each but there amazing so 1440p for the win you have a r9 390 which should run 1440p at high/ultra 60 FPS stable and FPS Games over 144 Fps its not old and outdated as 1080p , and its not unstable as 4k but of course good 1440p 144Hz monitors are only a few and are very expensive so if your casually gaming at games such as GTA 5 go for 1440p@60Hz if your a FPS Gamer go for a 1080@144Hz but if you have money go for my monitor or a ASUS Rog Swift , 4k you can forget about it since its expensive _ you cant run 4k and its gonna be 60HZ

... the refresh rate has nothing to do with the amount of pixels the monitor has

If you play games like CSGO but also games like GTA, JC3 etc then 1440p. Your PC cant run 4k so well, and you could only really play a few games at 144hz so I recommend a 1440p monitor. BUT if you only play competitive FPS games like CSGO then 144hz

I mean the amount of pixels that have to be rendered and displayed per second, which the 144Hz display has 2.4 times the frames of a 60Hz display.

z if your a FPS Gamer

I play 90% FPS games and I would still take 1440p 60 over 1080p 144hz any day

I can easily do well in CS;GO and BF4 etc, im not a "professional" and I play casually but im normally top of server in most games and manage just fine

really while 144hz is nice, id take the eye candy over the framerate unless you really just play CS:GO and wanna get pro

To be honest i never felt different between 1440p and 1080p while gaming at FPS Games since i was more focused on get the one deags but in games like GTA 5,Dying Light,Crysis 1440p is way more obvious to the human eye now im talking about myself maybe you like to play CS:GO for fun and see the difference but me playing CS:GO since 2013 i got used and cannot see any difference but 60Hz vs 144Hz anybody can see that the difference is even big in Minecraft :D
