Upgrading to 1600x900-is it worth it?

cr1tikalme

Upgrading from 720p (1366x768) to 1600x900 is it worth it,is there much of a difference in gaming?

(i know 1080p is better but my card can't handle it and i want to have 60fps even with with lower res)

I wouldn't upgrade. Buy a better graphics card instead so you can at least get a 1080p monitor.

you're better off going 1920x1080. you can downscale from that, and you'll have to real estate for more productive things.. like browsing LTT.com with a slightly smaller font.

Does anyone even use PCIe SSDs?

I'm getting hd7870XT Tahiti( or r9 270x if it comes soon). +fx6300+8gb ram. Problem is i won't upgrade for next 2 years and i don't know if this card can handle that res on at least 1080p medium/high settings for next 2 years 30+fps.
I wanted to go for safe bet-1600x900.(i'm not tech savvy guy so don't know much).Because if i can't run games on native 1080p i would have to downgrade res and playing in non-native res sucks(i tried)

As everyone has said, 1080p monitors are very cheap these days, I would upgrade your GPU and get a 1080p monitor.

I should imagine that card will be fine for awhile, I currently run a 6850 and that can still handle games at 1080p, even some games in max, but mostly high. I should say you will be fine with that card, though I would wait for AMD's new cards to hit the market :)

u should get a 1080p monitor and just run ur games at a lower resolution. by far this is the best chioce. anything less than 1080p should not be allowed onm the market anymore.
that card is more than capable of running 1080p games

Yeah but i want to get 45+ fps on high settings on large 64 player map on new Battlefield 4 and maybe it would be easier to achieve that on 1600x900 monitor. Also i would keep the card for next 2-3 years or more.

Getting a 1080p monitor and run games at lower resolution is worst ever because of non native res(i tried,it really sucks).

The R9 270X is looking like a fantastic card. If you get it, you should definitely go with a 1080p monitor. The 270X should be able to handle games perfectly fine for the next few years anyway.

You'll appreciate having a 1080p monitor once you get one.

Has anyone upgraded from 1600x900 monitor to 1080p monitor?  (not just played at 1600x900 on 1080p monitor).

Was the difference really big?

bro go with a 1080p display, downscaling it to a lower res isn't that bad in case you need it,and having a 1080p display is better for your overall PC usage...

The 7870 XT is still quite powerful. It'll be good.

Lower settings at 1080p will look better than higher settings on at lower res.

Yes, it's that big of a difference.
