So i found a dirt cheap i5 750 and i want to build my second gaming rig. I already got the gpu hd 7970. Is the i5 still capable to run most of today's games untill at least next year? ( gta 5, ac syndicate, rust, etc) Will it bottleneck the gpu ( most likely not, but i want your opinions )

Most games are optimised to run on a potato, so this quad core would do fine.

Keep in mind it's 1333 RAM which is a bugger to find (unless your second hand sites for some reason are loaded)...

Shouldn't bottleneck a hd 7970, my i7 860 with hyperthreading disabled can take an r9 290 without bottlenecking.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Just a random question. Which one is better, i5 750 or i3 2100?

Depends on the software.

If eG: Game uses 2 cores Core0+1 and nothing else, the i3 will win.

Any modern game,... the i5 will likely have less stutters due to have more cores to work with at a lower usage level, but FPS can likely be similar (i5 750 having a lower clockspeed and IPC per core)

Weird trade off dependent on game engine strengths.

Really depends on what your playing.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I just rebuilt my pc with a i5 750, then overclocked it to 3.8 ghz. Very happy with the performance, if it is a upgrade from your current cpu i would say go for it!!

You can find a CPU bottleneck with any hardware if you play certain games. So, sure, occasionally. If you're shooting for 60 FPS you're probably not going to have issues with it very often, though. Keep in mind "bottleneck" just means your CPU is dictating the framerate limit lower than what the GPU could do… it's only a problem if that limit is far below what you would consider acceptable.

I was still using an i5-750 until last August when I took a Skylake upgrade. It was a good time to upgrade, but it was still holding up alright in most games. I spent about 150 hours in The Witcher 3 with it. I remember most 2014–2015 games able to run at 60+ FPS average with minimums in the 40's with my i5-750/GTX 770, in some cases with tweaking.
