Such Thing as Reversible Micro USB to USB type C?

xAdventx

There's a usb type C port on my laptop that can be used for data transfer, but atm it's really not doing anything. Was wondering how cool it would be if I could find a cable that was reversible on the micro usb side for my phone, and still type C on the other end for my laptop...Couldn't find anything on sites like amazon though. Anyone know of any like these that exist?

Well...my Nexus 6P came with a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable.

USB Type-A (AKA regular) is non-reversible.

micro-USB is a small form factor of "normal" USB....

By the way, these micro-USB to USB Type-C cables do exist.

OP is looking for a reversible m-USB. Those weird connectors that you can plug in either way around such as MicFlip. Which I personally don't believe to exist ever, OP.

Currently Apple is the only one dumb enough to have nothing but type-C on a laptop but they have no micro-USB in any device. A lot of Androids have micro-USB but PCs have type A available. NO reason to connect the two makes for a bad market. You're going to have to use an adapter in between IMHO.

Ohhhh....

Well in that case, there is probably no such thing.

The micro-USB standard is non-reversible...

I had a feeling I read this topic wrong.

Micro-USB B which is what most devices use is not reversible because of its shape, and I know of no devices that use Micro-USB A (which is rectangular). If you were to make something that would technically be reversible, it wouldn't be very snug in the plug.

Ahh. Well when I saw the cool technology and convenience behind some starter companies creating reversible micro-usb cables, I thought it would be nice to have a combination of this type of connector with a type c connector on the other end. Makes both sides reversible. When I mentioned micro-usb I actually was unaware that there was a type and b. Was referring B's in this case.

And yeah I actually do just kinda want to use the type c port on my laptop lol. It has absolutely no function for me atm

There are specially made reversible micro-b cables, such as these from Silverstone (look at the second picture). However, these probably do not conform to the USB standards. They are also fairly rare.

USB works by having a device with a type-a connector be the host (this is usually the computer), and the device with a type-b connector (micro, mini, ect) be the peripheral, like a phone, printer, ect (this is assuming a standard connection, not an OTG one).

Type-c can function as both, which is why it's found on both hosts (like computers), as well as peripherals (such as portable SSD's, phones, ect).

As far as reasons to have a type-c to micro-b connector, well it would be just like having a type-a to micro-b. In fact, there is no real advantage.

So my advice to OP:

If he/she really wants connect his/her phone to his/her computer with reversible connectors on each side, just get a Type-a to micro-b connector that has reversible connections on each side (like one of the silverstone's I linked above).
