Founders edition wise why is everyone releasing their own founders edition card when they all look exactly the same

Because people are dumb and will buy whatever 1080 is available. Even if that card is trash.

Same thing as reference.. The GPU manufacturer sets the reference spec and the board partners have to make x number of them, for doing so they get x number for whatever designs they want.

It means Nvidia / AMD aren't competing with their board partners directly

As it's a set design by Nvidia / AMD, they will always looks the same (apart from stickers on plastic reference shrouds) and any difference in price is for the benifits of buying that companies card, eg extended warranty, better class of customer service, step-up programs etc

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

What makes it a founders edition is that it has a reference pcb and reference cooler.

Well if you wanna buy founders edition for some reason, go for EVGA.

They allow you to remove stock cooler without voiding warranty :)

Slightly unfair... It is upgraded components and cooler to a basic reference design.. BUT not worth near what they are charging... It's early adopters tax with a premium blower design.

It's just the reference card. It has no "upgraded" components or anything, not even a "premium" cooler, it's just the reference model. The only difference is that nVidia will be producing the reference model throughout the entire lifespan of the GTX 1080 and 1070, compared to previous generations where they (nVidia) only produce a few reference cards with reference coolers.

Third-party board designs are going to be better, with better power delivery and better overall components. They'll also be more expensive.

No.. it has a vapor chamber and if you look at the bottom of the range cards announced they are very cheap blower designs..

As I said, the premium is very not worth the FE but it is more than just a standard ref design (though assumes that position kinda cos it's nott he cheapest card..

Their recent reference designs have had the same vapor chamber coolers. The shroud is (probably) the only thing that was upgraded with this model.

And no, it's not more than a standard reference design. It is the reference design. I'll list a video or two before the cards were released about the "founders edition." If you buy a card like the EVGA regular or SC designs you'll get the "Founders Edition" (reference) card with a different cooler. It doesn't have special or upgraded components.

Start the video at 3:20, that's when he starts talking about the "FE" cards.

Spoiler
