I was wondering which aspect ratio is better. I personally think that 21:9 monitors are sexy af but are they practical? Do they hinder productivity in any way and more importantly will they make me better at CS:GO? xD

Seriously though what are the benefits and drawbacks of using an ultrawide 21:9 display?

using a 21:9 since 2 years now.

its just awesome for productivity and gaming.

you can have to 4:3 windows next to each other on which every website is optimized for and people call me hacker in some games because i can see more on the sides.

Pros: moar pixels

Cons: harder to drive, so you need a decent GPU

Keep in mind a 34" 21:9 1440 monitor will be about the same overall width as a 40" 4K monitor except with less vertical height. Personally, I'm going to a 34" 21:9 1440 panel and then probably wait for the next gen of GPU's before I jump into 4K.

Or you could say a 34"21:9 1440 monitor will be the same overall heigh as a 27" 1440p, except with more width.

Or you could say it's the same as a 15" 1024 x 768 monitor but with more width and height xD

Personally I think I'd love an ultra wide but having not used one, I can't comment on the number of games that support that resolution, which would be my primary concern (having to play 16:9 in some games because they can't do better)

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I have enocuntered few games that dont support it.

Only Fallout 4 didnt support it for me.

Though I only play these, they all work

Dirt 3

Minecraft

BF4/3/Hardline

Arma 3

Arma 3 was the game that I thought was going to look amazing on an ultra-widescreen.

I used to have 2x16:9 monitors ( 24 and 21.5inch) as my daily drivers but then I saw the LG 29" 2560x1080 21:9 for sale and picked it up, replaced the dual monitor set up. I will say that the 21:9 setup is really awesome for gaming, especially in FPS shooters and if your in to truck simulators (American Truck Simulator), You have a wider FOV in games but also due to the pixel count being higher, my dual 270x (Crossfire) cant push the graphics settings in games that I play (BF4/Fallout 4). I do plan on saving up for the MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 as it should handle the games now and for the future (Battlefield 1 etc.).

So if a 21:9 1440 panel has the same number of pixels as a 4K monitor minus the vertical height, will said monitor play 4K movies natively or is there some sort of trickery you have to do in order to get the movie to play full screen at that resolution?

it really depends on the program, what a lot of games do for pre-rendered movies and such will just use a 16:9 ratio and you'll just have black bars on the side until it's done.
