Hi, I am currently doing my GCSEs which i pretty much finish after next week (when gtx 1070 releases). I am going to be getting a gtx 1070 as currently i don't have a GPU as my system is quite new and i wanted to wait for pascal (good idea). I am hoping to have my graphics card for 24th of June-ish (my official end of exams), this means i should probably order the graphics card as soon as i can to avoid it selling out. This means I should probably choose a custom cooler from the gtx 1080 range. That's the problem though as i have no idea which is the best. I don't want to spend too much on it (not over the founders edition price) and i would like to do some over clocking and for the card to be quiet. please could any of u guys help me out with which gpu i should get. I would also like the card to be 2 slots because i have a microATX case and a board for sli for later so i don't want the card to stop me from being able to get sli in the future. Please let me know what u think is the best card will be for the gtx 1070 when it comes out. thanks guys

JDHD

p.s. i have an i7 4790k so hopefully not too much of a bottleneck

Wait till you see all the review of all the aftermarket 1070s coming out. Even more so since you want to be overclocking and playing with voltages.

Snip

No bottleneck, no... What res are you playing on (or what screen), whats the refresh rate and do you have a g-sync/freesync monitor??

Reviews haven't landed for custom cooled 1080's let alone 1070's.. With the price difference of UK for cards that should be similarly priced.. I'd wait till you see confirmed specs then go for the combination of brand you trust most and price to clock.. I'd have no problem getting a KFA, Zotac or Inno3d card compared to an EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI or Asus.. depending on the prices and confirmed specs and look for reviews being released... when you have info.. buy.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Thanks, but i'm worried that the cards will be out of stock or the reviews will take too long so i am without a GPU for even longer.

It'll be out of stock definitely. In depth reviews won't come so soon. You have to play the waiting game if you want to pick the best.

Remember the GTX 970? At the start everyone was chanting Strix. As it turns out the Strix wasn't that good for overclocking and had power issues. Then the G1 took over later into the game.

i'm just hoping to get a feel for which i should watch out for, currently i am leaning towards EVGA and their sc or ACX 3.0 but i also don't know whether the power should be something i should be woried about as it uses the reference board. also, what is the difference between the EVGA ACX 3.0 and the EVGA ACX 3.0 Superclocked? if it is just the clock speed out of the box, could i just overclock and get the cheaper one?

SC cards are the ones with reference boards. SC is higher clocked than the ACX. Sure you can go with the normal version and overclock it to SC level.

But those cards don't really have the overclocking level you would expect from custom PCB ones.

When it comes to overclocking beware of the silicon lottery. Not all GPUs will overclock the same. Some will overclock heaps and some wont go more than 100mhz. The only speed you are guaranteed  is the boost clock under good conditions.

The difference is that the Sc version has a higher guaranteed clock speed. There is no saying that the regular won't be able to clock higher than the Sc version, by doing it manually.
