Windows 10 Films and TV app can't play MKV files

Hey, I found out that some MKV files I recently got can't be play whereas MKV files I had previously worked and still work. It keeps coming up with  "Can't Play This item was encoded in a format that's not supported   0xc00d5212."

Can anyone help?

you would need another video player, like vlc or mpc-hc (with madVR codecs)

MKV files are supported by Windows 10 including Windows 10 Mobile devices, and XBox One.

As the codec is part of Windows, you can use Windows Media Player 12 or Movie & TV app (in the case of Windows 10). It must be noted that Windows 10 doesn't support inAC3 nor DST, so MKV files using either those won't have sound, and it doesn't support HEVC, meaning that it will not play, like what you are seeing.

 

Open the Feedback app and upvote or post your issue. This is the best way to get Microsoft to improve support.

 

Fun fact: Windows 10 (including Mobile and XBox One), also support: FLAC music files.

Just install mpc hc.
