Overclocking a 4770 (non K)

Go to solution Solved by DrM,

you change the base clock. be careful though since afaik the tempurature monitor is affected by base clock so will show up as lower than it actually is. someone on this forum killed their cpu doing this awhile back.

so I've been reading around, and man, let me tell you The amount of different answers people have is just wow, so Once and for all, I'd like to ask here, and hopefully I can not only link people here when others ask me about this but I can hopefully get an overclock on my 4770, recently as everyone should know, the new intel sutff and AMD stuff are coming and new GPU's so I've start the phase in my computer build where no shits are given(once I've saved enough to replace a part if I break it beyond cheap repair), and I over volt and overclock to the max, currently I've flashed custom bios's to my 2 g1 gaming 970's and I got both running (GPU-z stats Clock=1291, mem=1903, boost=1532) so now here I am, I know I made a mistake getting a 4770 and not a 4770k but I got my mobo (asus z87-a) and it as a combo for supercheap (around $450 CAD a few years ago with tax) now there is a post, ---> (linked) and many other on the internet to where people are able to overclock there 4770 nonK and I ask how do I do this?

TLDR: How do I overclock my 4770-nonK on my asus z87-a mobo?

I see, does changing the base clock do anything else besides the cpu? like bus speeds or anything because I already know thats not somthing my mobo likes very much from reading other posts on the internets

If you want to try I would recommend getting a decent CPU cooler. It also might take a while because you will have to work around all the locked OC features.

I suck a typing, preparw for typos.

im not sure about the bus speed, but increasing base clock also speeds up ram timings, so you may need to underclock those

Also, please use the "Enter" key every once in a while when writting posts. It was super hard to read your first paragraph....
