I need a full build minus keyboard, OS, and mouse. I would appreciate 1440p monitor suggestions and a worthy GPU/GPU combination (From what I understand 2 8GB rx480s sound pretty good).

The rig is mainly for gaming, but I will be creating content and running other moderately heavy computing tasks.

I am not too concerned with form factor, noise, or whatever else, as long as it does not hinder performance. I don’t actually know anything about computers or computer hardware. I am here because I don’t want to spend $2,000 on the top 0f the line dell desktop and then still need to buy a  monitor and THEN be disappointed.

Thank y'all

The R9 390X is in this build because the GTX 1070 is not yet available and it has a similar price. It will do a decent job, but I expect the 1070 would be better if it is available when you buy.

Oh okay, I understand now. I have seen a review of the 5820k before. I like the idea.

What system would you build around it? I see you have it overclocked to 4.3, that’s where I would take the 6700k.

the max a CPU can overclock is different for every CPU, its called the "silicon lottery" because some CPUs can't OC much, and sometimes it can OC a lot.

When you say you will be creating content, do you mean stuff like video editing/rendering?

Speed isn't everything. The monitor is a 2560 x 1440 IPS panel. IPS panels have much better color reproduction and wider viewing angles. They do have higher refresh rates, but for many users the difference is not noticeable. For content creation/editing the color reproduction is nice.

A 1080 monitor has ~2.07 million pixels. A 1440 monitor as ~3.7 million, or nearly twice as many.

Base clock is 4GHz with turbo to 4.2GHz. OC results vary based on many factors, not the least of which is each particular chip, but 4.7GHz - 4.8GHz is not uncommon. I7-5820K generally top out around 4.5GHz.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Thank you.

You can tell pcpartpicker to only display choices from your preferred merchants. Click on the merchants link on the left when picking an item or click on your sign in name at the top and set your preferences.

The NH-U12S is a better cpu cooler for overclocking.

The 2TB Seagate ST2000DM001 has a very poor reputation for reliability. I would suggest something like the WD Blue 2TB.

The Corsair RM750 is just an average psu. I would suggest something much better. Besides, 750W is much more than needed. Even if one decides to go with 2 GTX 1070 or 1080 gpu.

Thank you, sir! Realistically how much of difference would I notice from a 5400rpm vs a 7200rpm hard drive? I gather people on forums absolutly hate the former.

When used as a data drive the difference between 5400 and 7200 rpm is not really noticeable. Unless one does reasonably long/large reads/writes.

The 450D has enough stock fans for good airflow.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I really like that case. I will definitely swap them out.

What is the cheapest I should spend on water cooling? and how much more affective would it be than the NH-D15s or NH-U12s?

For my understanding, what would be the realistic, minimum cooler for a mild overclock of about 4.2 to 4.4GHz rather than 4.7-4.8GHz?

I will probably overclock to 4.4GHz off the bat and see how it goes. I can see myself going up to 4.6 or down to 4.2GHz depending on how things play out.
