I am aware the RX 480 comes out at the end of the month and the gtx 1070 comes out in a week and they would be my best bet but I would like to go by what is currently on the market.

what do you think of this?
I think its more future upgrade friendly.
Its not flashy or anything but it will work well, and quiet.
i5 6500 is highly recommended if u can afford the 20quid extra

Looks nice. I got the price of a 290 wrong it should be 170. I would prefer to use a board with a z170 chipset so I can overclock in the future and I may possibly go up to i5 6600k so I can overclock. My alternative is this (note this does push me £15 to £20 over budget):

I have gone down to 1 stick of RAM as it is the easiest thing upgrade when I get a little more money.

Overclocking is nice an all. But you should know it brings very little performance gains. and in general if you can afford to overclock, just go get a higher tier CPU. i7, xeons ect2...

As for the PSU, seems alright, even for SLI/Crossfire (not that its recommended)
But saving 30quid on the psu might allow u to get better components elsewhere, like another stick of ram. ofcourse u still need a decent psu. Just saying that newer cards are requiring less and less power.

just my opinion as someone who stopped doing 2-3 way crossfire and heavy overclocking.
CPU OC is still useful in certain workloads, but in gaming, its almost pointless.

If it was me, i would get a 6500/6700 and a simple board and a simple decent psu, and dump that cash elsewhere.
BUT i do know OC is alot of fun.. so... haha.. :)

Thanks for the advice. I'll look for alternative PSUs. This is my first build so I never overclocked before but I would like to try it. Given I should wait for the RX 480 I may use the money for a GPU to go an i7 6700k as well as increase SSD capacity and amount of RAM and just saving up for a GPU at a later date.

If gaming is what you are doing, i think the 6600k is a better choice. 6700k wont give u much if any performance gains in most games. And you can still practice overclocking and such.
A used watercooler like the seidon 120v/corsair h50i(or whatever the new name is) might also be a good idea if you want to play around with even higher voltage overclocks. Just an idea, the 212 is great too.

Good luck and have fun building :)

Thanks :). I'll take a look at a used water cooler but may be something I upgrade over time. I agree with you about the 6600k but I have CeX vouchers I need to use and the only two parts I can get from them is processor and SSD so I might as well use them. Thank you so much for your advice.
