I have a small issue my ram is hyper X fury dd4 2400 mhz and my cpu is i5-6500 , which by specs supports up to 2133 mhz ram.The motherboard is gigabyte h170 d3h .The issue is that i can not modify the ram frequency in the bios more than 2133 mhz . Is that because of the cpu or there is a way around, which i do not know? Thank you in advance.

Thats because of the cpu and to be honest you really won't notice a difference between 2133 and 2400MHz

Yeah , i know i will not notice,

but i was just wondering am I missing something, or I was misinformed, when I bought the cpu and the memmory.

The CPU doesn't support over 2133MHz though. And i think XMP works fine on non-Z boards

The highest "default" ram frequency on a H or B 170 is 2133.
If your mobo is one that allows you to boost your bclck then this in theory could allow you to reach 2400 on your ram.

The CPU most definitely supports over 2133.  It's most likely the board. Not all h170/ b series boards support XMP.

 

I literally just ran 3842 mhz the other day on one, at 12-11-11-28 1T timings.

All that number on ark.intel is, is just a guaranteed pre "xmp" number.  Technically XMP is overclocking, so intel gives you a base pre-OC number to cover their asses.

 

Although I've never seen a skylake CPU that couldn't do 3000+ with ease.  My 6700k has no issues past 4000, the i5 6500 from that picture couldn't do 4000 12-11-11, but an i7 6700 I also benchmarked could do it.   I think these locked CPU's have slightly worse IMC than their unlocked brethren, since I've never had any issues getting 4133 C12 to work on my 6700k, with barely any volts added to IMC.
