Would I get better temps with a custom loops on my cpu? I am using a corsair H100i (1st Generation) and I currently have my gpu watercooled with a custom loop and was considering getting a cpu block with another 240 Rad. I have a 5820k cpu that for some reason was running at 2.8Ghz so tried to overclock it. The max I've gotten is 4.3GHz and it throttles at around 5 min with the Aida stability test. I left my Cpu at 4.3Ghz and it runs well. Tried a render and did fine, as in it didn't crash. I hadn't tried to overclock this cpu, but honestly I expected more from it. So anyone have any experience with lower temps by having a custom loop as opposed to the corsair h100i?

Thanks,

From what I hear, a custom loop will ALWAYS outperform an AIO, especially if you get a huge ass radiator and a lot of fans. Also, try air conditioning your room, reducing the ambient temperature, that can always make a HUGE difference.

I have a Fury Nitro and an FX 8320E. Screw my life?

After 5 min it begins throttling. Temps are between 90 and 100 degrees. Not all cores but at least one. The PC doesnt shut down, i stop the test after it redlines and gives about an 8% throttle.

Thanx, the room has AC. The radiator i would add with the cpu block would also be a 240 like the one the corsair h100i currently has. I suppose i can add a 240 and a 120 as well.

Even though the old H100i is nothing special. Your 5820K shouldn't run at 90-100C at 4.3GHz. Something isn't right. Try to remount the waterblock. I don't expect your CPU will run higher than 80C unless you have abnormally high ambient temperature.

A custom loop is of course better. But only <10C or so even with a lot of radiator space compares to an AIO.

Thanks for the reply! I think Im just going to order an EK water block for it and a new radiator. I've been wanting to, but have held back. in the meantime Ill will reinstall with new thermal paste.
