Hi, posting for a friend. He was working with a video in Premiere Pro, and he used the 720p Youtube video setting to export. He accidentally selected the original raw file to write over. It then gave him an error, and now the file says size: 0 bytes and refuses to be used for anything. Any way to recover this or is he screwed?

I doubt it would have overwritten the original footage since they would almost certainly be different file extensions and thus different names... are you absolutely sure that's what happened?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

As far as he says. I think that when he was selecting where to save the export he selected the original footage (like, actually clicked on it) and then hit export so it copied over. TBH I'm not sure what you mean by file extensions.

Well there is a good chance that part or all of it is gone but you could try some data recovery software

Okay, what would you recommend that's free  (this isn't a huge deal but he would like it back).

I don't have personal experience with them but this is generally a trustworthy source of information, so any of these would probably work well:

Literally just tried that, it found nothing under the directory where the corrupted file is. Haven't tried the deep scan thing yet though.

Deep scan and come back here, if deep scan can't find anything, I'm afraid it's gone
