So I'm planning on installing Windows on the pc I built, but I will be using my macbook pro to make a bootable USB with the os, since I don't have a disk drive and would rather just buy a digital product key.

So my plan is to

-Buy the key from that place if it's good- This is what I'm planning on buying cause I don't want to spend a lot on it

-partition my mac with windows so I can download the tool to create installation media for windows, (the tool isn't compatible with OSX)

-choose the create media for another pc option and put it on my usb.

Is this going to work? I just wanted to make sure that my copy of windows is retail and not OEM, because I read that ISO from the windows website doesn't support OEM keys.

Also how should I format my usb? My options are OSX extended (journaled), OSX extended (case-sensitive, journaled), MS-DOS(FAT), and exFAT

Neither of the osx ones are gonna work with windows though, so I'm not sure which of the other two...

The Bootcamp Asistant tool that comes with your mac can create a windows install disk out of the iso file.

So are you going to install Windows on OSX Bootcamp purely for the purpose of creating Windows Install Media? Surely you have a friend who could chuck it on a USB for you -- takes 10 minutes using the Microsoft utility -- https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10

I bought Windows 10 key from Kinguin, for $26 - works. You should check out their Windows 7 prices if you must have Windows 7.

Format the USB drive on the Windows machine you are creating the media with - FAT (default) format.

I was planning on upgrading to 10 once it was all installed I just found it was cheapest- I could ask a friend maybe I will do that instead. Thanks!

Well that's convenient.....

Wait is the install disk for use on another computer or to boot with windows on a mac?

It should work with another computer

Also those are OEM keys and I was under the impression they didn't work with the ISO stuff that comes from the Windows site, of course that could but wrong- did you use the OEM?
