it's not that haveing 1 2 3 or 4 sticks gives youddr dual tri quad channel.. It's a technology used to increase bandwidth. You can have 20 sticks of ram in some server boards but they still run quad channel.

 

So, if you want to get 16GB ram and the board can take 32GB, you can just add more later when needed..
