HTC VIVE Early adopters... are you satisfied with your investment?

Hey LTTP community.

I was debating on the Vive right now. I'm against what Oculus has been up to and how they want to rig the market full of DRM.

$800 is a hefty investment but it was definitely cool trying it out at a microsoft store. But owners of the vive, are you all satisfied with your investment?

Its a pretty good device, room scale is certainly the right way to play VR games. I suspect once Facebook releases the touch contollers the price will be similar between the two, but Vive will obviously have a release advantage and it will take time for Facebook to catch up in terms of game support. Early accounts suggest the finger tracking stuff is kind of neat on touch but that the controllers are a bit more laggy and less accurate and the camera seems to loose tracking just 1.5m out which isn't really competitive with Vive and its laser light houses.

I am pretty happy, been playing a lot of different types of games. My only real gripe is the lack of AAA content for it, there really isn't enough high budget games that can be played with it and literally zero that are room scale. Its very much like the early days with Atari where you are playing this single mechanic/aspect games and its all full price but having now seen these more advanced gaming experiences it all feels a little less compelling. Its still really cool but its still in early adopter territory.

What have some of the better games been that you have been playing?

Hover Junkers, Job simulator and vanishing realms are my personal favourites so far. A lot of people are big on Audioshield but I am meh about it. I have played some Elite Dangerous and Truck simulator as well and they are pretty cool just not games I'll play a whole host of. Had issues with project cars with revive but I think its now got Vive support and that may be something I get into.

I've got my vive yesterday. No news of my oculus that I preordered many months beforehands.

I haven't had lots of time to test many games yet but those that sticked to me were Vanishing Realms and Space Pirate Trainer.

Both games are very good but SPT is rather physically demanding as you must evade and block laser from the enemies and it gets very hectic in the later stages.

I've also tried the free games available on the Oculus Store, that being Farlands, Incell and Lucky's tale with the Revive software.

Lucky's tale was played with my PS4 controller using DS4 to emulate Xbox controller, it wouldn't work otherwise. Game is very good and extremely cute.

Farlands was played with my PS4 controller as well. It isn't a game you'll play a lot at ta time, seems to be more of a feed the animals and explore a bit every day or so. Very good looking graphically.

Incell wouldn't work with my PS4 controller. The image kept rotating all the time. Though when I unplugged the controller and restarted the game, it was working good.

So far, I'm satisfied but there is a lack of games but it's the same for every new hardware so that's to be expected. I've been using my Bose QC15 for my headphones, they fit great even with the Vive and they increase immersion dramatically by being active noice cancelling.

I just got mine ^.^

I purchased Hotdogs horseshoes and handgrenades and thats a really fun gun range simulator.

Out of ammo gets REALLY intense and I recommend that. an simplistic RTS w/ FPS elements.

Audio shield with my favorite songs broke me out in a good sweat. Played for a good hour and a half last night.

Job simulator being a fun and goofy game to have friends play or have them watch and see your silly antics.

Watched my artistic friend use google tilt. that was incredible.

Virtual desktop is also really cool. Its a cool way to do stuff on your computer like watching movies, porn Youtube, look at documents and whatnot.
