RAM Recommendations?

So I am going to buy new RAM for my server today.

It currently has 2.5GB RAM (non-ECC). 1 1GB and 3 512MB sticks.

Would it work to remove one 512 and add a 2GB stick? Then I get 4GB RAM.  Would that work or will it just make my server freak out?

DDR2 memory on a Dell 0J3492 motherboard
