With the release of the GTX 1080 I decided I wish to upgrade. My current build can be found here: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/OffensiveExile/saved/wYbFf7 and it is not that old in terms of hardware/use but I believe there are some parts that I could do with replacing, such as my cpu, motherboard, ram and gpu.

I am wanting advice on what specific hardware I should be getting but I already have an idea for cpu/gpu.

CPU: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80662i56600k (with overclocking enabled)

GPU: GTX 1080 (when it is released by a third party)

I am unsure of my RAM and motherboard as I've never directly looked into them but I was wondering if 16gb, ddr4 would be suitable and if so, how should I go about getting the correct model (same with the motherboard)?

I have 3 monitors, as you can see in the build and I am wanting to start play games on all 3 of my monitors and/or in ultra with reasonable FPS on a single monitor.

Games I play; World of Warcraft (I can imagine it being beautiful across 3 monitors), Heroes of the Storm, CS:GO, Black Ops 3, Rocket League.

I've read that there's some issues with the current gtx 1080's so that's why I'm holding back.

Why would you want to downgrade to an i5 ?

What kind of Issues?, if its heat related, the stock coolers are all like that.

It was something to do with random throttling or something. Plus I had been previously recommended to wait a little while for an EVGA overclocked 1080.

Oh, I had not actually looked into the specs too much. I have just been reading guides/builds of people wondering to get an i5 or i7 and every time the answer was i5 and with the 6600k being one of the latest cpus, I figured it was the best move to make. I am a little stupid for not looking at specs.

A 1080 is very overkill for this if at 1080p, a little more reasonable at 1440p, but if you have the money then go ahead. I would also keep the 4770k as it is still a very good processor.

The only reason why I wish to get the 1080 is due to the fact that I was told the gtx 780 wouldn't be able to play 1 game on screens at once.

I have noticed a lot of talk about the gpu/cpu but not recommendations on RAM, is that due to me not having a suggestion of my own or is it just a less spoken topic?

yeah the 4770k will be better than the 6600k since it has hyper threading

I haven't even utilized the majority of my build either, I wanted to overclock my 4770k and never got around to it. I believe I need a fresh start, reformat and setup everything the way it should be. I love my computer but I am really stupid and get confused easily when it gets technical really.

Not even for the ram? I was thinking that I don't really need 32gb and I can't even get the 1866 Mhz speed even after setting it up in the bios.

No problem, thank you for your input.

So, what I've got from this thread is, don't bother changing ram or cpu. Upgrade the gpu if I have the money (I've saved money to upgrade my pc). Motheredboard is still undecided but I guess in the same boat as the ram. If anyone else has some input, I'd greatly appreciate it. I just want to play games on 3 monitors :)

Is it at 1080p or 1440p? At 1080p go for a GTX 1070 and at 1440p go for a GTX 1080. I personally would just use a dual monitor setup with the third one being a team chat interface or a music application, but it is up to you.

Your Ram is running at 1866MHz. DDR stands for Double Data Rate so multiply it by two to see the correct speed.

My 1600MHz ram for example shows up as 800MHz in cpu-z.

Oh, no way, that's amazing news! Thank you.

It's 3 monitors on 1080p. Thanks for the input, I'd previously been running games in windowed borderless as I never could play them on all of my monitors.

There have been 1440p benchmarks for the 1070 fps wise in graphic intense games, and it looks much more geared towards that, so you should probably be fine with that considering triple 1080p is going to be 5760x1080, which is 75% of 4K and 20% more than 1440p resolution-wise. Up to you to save the extra $300 or so and go for the 1070 or just spend it all on the 1080.

@OffensiveExile You could go for the 1080 for peace of mind
