So I have this very old laptop from 2005 with a charger that doesn't work. I took out the HDD and put it in my desktop PC to try and get some files from it. I booted into Windows, went to This PC, the drive showed up but when I tried double clicking on it to see the files, it just stopped responding and File Explorer closed. I opened This PC up again and it doesn't show up. I did actually get into it to see the files once, but when I tried copying something it just closed and the drive wasn't there anymore. The weird thing is, whenever I put my PC to sleep and turn it on again, the drive shows up, but then the same problem occurs. Does anyone know how to fix this?

there's not much you can do - bring it to a repair shop for data recovery

Winning an argument with a woman step by step

step one - talk to her

step two - fight with her for 2 hours even if you are really right

step three - admit that she is right for the sake of your safety

step four - realize that you have accomplished nothing and she still thinks you were wrong and now she thinks you are even more stupid

It's a SATA HDD, and I have checked that it is plugged in correctly more than once. It worked in the laptop which I got work a few months ago. Another thing, it is VERY slow.

I just opened it, I tried copying a folder, then the drive "disappeared" again and it stopped copying and said something like this: "Verify the location of this drive"

I could actually access the files, but when I tried to copy them to my main drive it didn't seem to work.

try to move a single small file to/from the HDD. If that works AND  you have enough space on your current hdd or if you have another empty HDD then you could try cloning the HDD completely (if its breaking down its the safest way to do it yourself afaik).

You could try using a bootable CD that has drive imaging software (I personally use Active Boot Disk Suite), and try imaging it.

If that fails, then the drive is kinda ded.
