Hi there!

I am currently putting together a new rig and I came across this 60€ deal for a 850 evo 256Gb M.2 SSD. Since my motherboard does not support M.2, I was thinking that a M.2/pci-e converter might work. Would this converter work? Without bottlenecking the original SSD speeds?

Thanks!

the 850 evo is a sata m.2 anyways. you dont have the nvme pcie speeds with that. i would just get an adata premier sp550 and dont bother with m.2 until you need higher speeds than sata allows.

Yes I understand that, but unfortunately my motherboard supports only 3Gb/s sata connection. Plus, 60€ on that M.2 is a very good deal. This converter won't bottleneck the SSD right?

Unless you get an expansion converter card that has its own Sata3 controller, it will either not work, or will still be limited to Sata2 speed.

Here is one that has it

If you look for another adapter card, make sure it explicitly states Sata3 functionality for the M.2 slot

Thanks for replying! This was the product I was hoping to get.

It does say "compliant with SATA 3.0 specification for B key." And the 850 evo M.2 has a B key if I recall correctly.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but This would work right?

This is the entire product description:

  • 100% brand new and high quality
  • Connects one B key & one M key NGFF SSD at the same time to PCI-E 4X motherboard
  • Compliant with PCI Express M.2 specification 1.0

  • 8 screw holes 2230/2242/2260/2280 available to fix NGFF SSD cards
  • Easy installation & no driver required

  • Please note that for B key SSD the SATA 7 pin connector must be connected to motherboard
