Hello, Im about to buy a new psu and im thinking about either a Corsair rm750i or a Evga supernova 650 p2.

My number one priority is silence :)  My specs are: i5 4570, Gtx 770, 1tb hdd, so would a 650w be enough?

So which one of those 2 psu's would you guys recommend? :)

Sorry for my bad english :( Thanks in advance.

Out of the two, the RMi would be quieter thanks to its Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan. The addition of Corsair Link is a nice bonus where you can adjust your fan speed.

Of course, it's a purely optional.

So you would recommend the rm750i over the 650 p2 ?

I would recommend the RMi if you are purely concerned about sound.

In fact, you don't need the 750W model, just get the 'lowest' one, the RM650i.

The price where I im going to buy it the 750w and 650w is almost the same price :) But the rmi is also good quality in general right ?

Yep, if you can get the RM750i for the same price, go for it.

Everything @HKZeroFiveoutlined is pretty much what I would say. The RMi is actually my favorite PSU due to the flat 24-pin and acoustics so I'd grab that.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

This is false. The EVGA 650 P2 is quieter than the RM750i

Result-36-36_Average_Noise_Output_w_600.

650 P2 is 3rd from the top (21.69), RM750i is 9th (27.87)

I can't argue with benchmarks but I do find it curious that a FDB fan is louder than a rifle bearing fan and a double ball bearing fan.

@STRMfrmXMN, thoughts?

If want more in-depth detail on their testing, bottom 1/3 of both these links shows their results.

I don't have an exact answer for that question either.

The "no fan until a certain load" curve is more aggressively quiet on the RMi though, and don't forget that you can mess with it in Link as well. Also the flat 24-pin is the best thing in the world.

Exactly, isn't the fan curve on the RMi smoother while the P2 goes straight to 600RPM? Found it odd that the RMi is significantly higher in noise output.

I'm sure they're both whisper-quiet though so if whoever (haven't read the whole thread nor do I know why this conversation is taking place) wants either PSU, I would personally grab the RMi (I know I typically am an EVGA shill but the RMi is my very favorite PSU) as it's got that fan curve that can be custom set, it's got the flat 24-pin, and is just a super solid PSU all around.

On average, it's generally understandable that a higher wattage unit will be louder than a lower wattage unit. This is because a higher wattage unit will produce more heat at 100%, thus may require the fan to ramp up harder. Let's say you have a 1000w unit that remain fanless up until 500w and then have a 460w unit that's a fanless.  On average, the 1000w would be louder, but within that 460w range, they are both the same.

Because of this, you can't just used average dBA levels. It is better to look at the overall noise profile across the various of load range at both low/high intake temperature.

2BB fans that's in the P2 are more susceptible to bearing noises at lower RPMs, as you may hear a very distant ticking sound as the metal balls hitting one another. This was one of the reason why Corsair had been using rifle bearing and FDB fans since the release of the RM series, as there were complaints and returns with models like the Seasonic XP2 build AX.

Either way, both the RM750i and 650P2 are quiet units, in which even at high temps, they don't ramp up past 1000RPM (except when overloading the unit). If they are in the same price point, I would go for the RMi simply for the added features that Corsair Link brings, multi-rail mode, and the additional 100w.
