You should be ok, if anything, phone Microsoft about the activation issues, they get you covered.

I don't know. I got a Windows 7 Professional key and used it to get Windows 10 Professional. It was $20.

With some searching, you can find an ISO to use (and it's legal to do so, to my knowledge). If you're going for Windows 10 and have a Windows 10 key, you can get an installer straight from Microsoft.
