I have been watching a youtube series, where a guy runs worms on windows 98 and sees how they work, I would like to do the same, but I want to make sure there is no way of them spreading through the network, or infecting my host machine, I know it is windows 98, but you can never be too cautious.

VMs are very secure and it's unlikely, just make sure you have networking turned off on the VM. Also don't enable address extensions.

Well, torrenting is your best bet but it's illegal. Not that anything would happen to you for downloading an old ass OS.

Well, as speaking it's illegal to torrent. However, some commonly used sources are Kickass Torrents(kat.cr) and The Pirate Bay (thepiratebay.se). Always check comments and sort by the highest amount of seeders.

EDIT: I shouldn't say it's illegal to torrent, it's a very valid filesharing method. However it's commonly used for distributing copyrighted software.

You can get Windows 98 here, if you'd like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microsoft-Windows-98-Second-Edition-Full-Version-New-Sealed-With-Free-Hard-Drive-/141991848699?hash=item210f5faafb:g:B-0AAOSw~oFXKVs4

The seller has 100% feedback, so that's good. You could also torrent it.
