no real reason to do it, just save yourself the hassle of doing it

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Yes, update. Release bioses for Skylake were very immature, especially on the RAM side.

If you don't experience any issues with your chipset or any of the features with it that you use, no need to update and risk bricking your board. You should only do so if you experience any issues that are defined in the change logs of each bios revision.

would it also eliminate any possible chance for the skylake freeze bug?

Sigh... the skylake freeze bug is EXTREMELY specific. There's a reason as to why it wasn't found until many months after release: it only happens under super specific conditions. If you don't use an LLR based test, fear not: this subject has nothing to do with you.

For the Asus Z170-E, bios updates since 0203 say they include:

1203 - Improve system stability

1302 - Improve system stability

1402 - Improve system stability, Support 6th Gen Intel® Core™ i3-6098P and i5-6402P processors *Full support of the new CPU requires BIOS version 1402 or later, and VGA driver version 20.19.15.4285 or later

1602 - Update Microcode and improve system compatibility

1702 - Improve system stability

1801 - Improve system stability

I personally would update the bios to the latest. And if you have any troubles, you can easily flash back to a previous bios.
