GTX 960 safe temperatures?

So I decided to download furmark and do a test because "Why not?"


When I started the preset for 1080, my temps skyrocket to about 85C before I managed to stop it because I don't know what the safe limit is and I don't want to kill my card.

So that brought me here; so does anyone have an answer? Googling it, most people were saying 96C, but that seems rather high to me...

Keep it under 80*C if you want to keep it or longer than 2 years

I plan on keeping it for a separate build when I buy a 1070 in about a month or two, so thanks for the heads up!

Any idea why it went so high on the preset?

Under 80 to 85 is most peoples recommended sweet spot.

Cause it's a crap cooler? Bad PSU? Bad GPU? Bad Driver? Anything is possible

Probably my cooler.

the high temp i would say is due to the GPU fan profile, use a custom profile.

I have my own that is for gaming; "silent" until about 60, "quiet" til 70, "noisy" to 75, full at any higher.

I never hit over 65C in my games when recording, even with the NVENC (spelling?) encodec for OBS.

Just thought I'd try it, ended up going higher than I thought it was, and wanted to know the max safe temperature for future endeavours.

Recording isn't taxing though - it uses a separate chip IIRC

Because it's a useless test for thermal testing. You're never going to encounter that load in games.

 

Dont fuck with the fanprofile, there are more components than the GPU that heat up. The 960 is silent enough, just leave the card to determine the fanspeed.
