Does anyone have any experience with the Dell XPS 9550 4K playing league of legends? What kind of performance are you guys getting on it? Does it get hot/throttle?

@don_svetlio found out that the XPS 15 has thermal throttling, it is not something a lot of the reviews point out, but it is there.

for sure. but you can undervolt most XPS15's significantly. Along with a repaste, it removes the heat and throttle issue. Slightly increases battery life too. The biggest issue was just getting XTU is stick LOL.

Well when you undervolt you might aswel just let it thermal throttle since the performance will be the same when it is thermal thermal throtteling, but when it's not the performance will be better on the none undervolt xps 15. I don't recomend undervolting a laptop.

No? Turbo clocks are up after undervolt during sustained Prime95 benches cause lower temps. You're not underclocking your CPU, just letting it run more efficiently. Most XPS15's don't need the high stock voltage to run. There's 0 comprise in performance. (and more likely than not, increases in performances)

Oh I miss understood then xD I am just used to see people saying the undervolt their cpu, but they also underclock it.

@OP XPS15 massively throttles under CPU and GPU loads (like gaming). I have the 1080p but if I supersample LoL up to 4k, its not exactly smooth, but playable. Battery life also takes a dip with the 4k screen. If you're not doing professional work or touch screen, the 1080p screen provides more than enough. There's two models of the 1080p versions with different sized batteries so take note of that if you intended to purchase (get the bigger battery one obv). With the 4k model I don't believe they offer the lower battery sized model so its fine.

if your willing to do some work and break your warranty you can get the machine to run perfectly with 0 throttling issues, better battery life, and alot more quieter too.

Does undervolting void warranty?

I can tell you right now from experience that that is false. I push my XPS 15 HARD with heavy gaming loads and it rarely even reaches 80C. I have never seen it throttle in any way. The older units did have some issues but the current model has no problems.
