So is it worth doing the copper cables or the Ethernet?

Well between the two it's mainly up to you as long as your up to the task of running the Ethernet cable.

Hi,

So I live in the UK, where there is fiber optic internet. But due to the age of my house, I have copper cables from the exchange to the house and then fiber optic to the exchange. This means my speeds are not super dooper quick, but they will do. My bedroom is on the far side of the house from the router, roughly 7.5 meters and there is no way of running cables internally of the house, because there are two adjoining bathrooms above the router so, I cant take apart the walls. My plan, as suggested by my neighbor, who is 80 years old, and is a complete computer nut, suggested cutting the copper cables (only 2) from the exchange to the house, at my front door, and then split the cable and feeding it along the outside of the house to my room at the top, where I will put it into a router, give or take a couple of other connections. After watching the video LTT made today (25/05/16) where he used ethernet.

I want to know which one you would use. Ethernet or cut my cables and split it so I had 2 routers. The rough length would be 15 meters of cable. Ethernet is the biggest pain to do, but the safest in terms of cutting cable, but I would like to know from some professionals.

Any help is appreciated!

Well that could be done, it would need to be in a conduit to protect it from the weather as it goes outside and back into the home. I would double check to make sure that is allowed though as I know some places don't allow for that with electrical or communications cables.

Another option ion may be to look into Powerline Ethernet.

I currently have powerline Ethernet. But as you know we are the type of people always looking to get the best!

Are you sure I would need another ISP subscription (Not sure if thats the right wording), I think my neighbor didn't split it into two, but simply re routed it to his living room. But if there were no issues would the Ethernet be quicker or not?

Non you wouldn't need another subscription but an Ethernet connection usually will give higher speeds than say Powerline since it depends on the length of the run and the wiring in the walls
