We dont get told what programs we will be using until we start in september! Im buying a pc for it though so i was wandering if i need some special specs like a better CPU or something!

You just need a notepad application, you can code on any device that allows you to type letters into a file and can save it. Technically you can even code with a pen and paper and then transfer it to a file later. I do all of my coding in either VIM (vi improved) or Notepad++. I use either a $700 desktop or a $35 ARM device, both work just as good with neither having any benefit over the other.

Here's an example of a PHP script:

<?php

echo "Hello World";

?>

As you can see it's not very demanding and can be typed up anywhere on anything that accepts inputs.

I could program on my 10 year old laptop that I'm using as a server. Is typing words really that demanding? That's what programming is. If you're not making visual programs then it's even lighter.

System.out.println("Java is the best. At least in my opinion :p");
