Cooler Master vs EVGA?

Go to solution Solved by itsamee,

Thanks everyone for the help but managed to pick up a Corsair CS550M Gold rated from someone who lived near me for £25 (They are £69 on Amazon lol) and it works perfectly

The old one felt like nothing was inside it compared to this thing xD

Anyway, thanks for the help!

So recently I have found the PSU I currently have (some 500W WinPowerPC - was with the PC when I got it off a friend) isn't providing the power needed for my graphics card to run properly. I currently run an FX 4100 (Looking to see the new AMD/Intel line before upgrading) with a GTX 960. I have been looking at the two I have linked below but not really informed on the certain amps and stuff that is needed to make everything work as it should.

Does anyone know which one would be better for me? Or if you know of one that is better than these in the same kinda price range as I am currently on a tight budget.

Thanks!

Neither tbh, since they're not even Bronze rated...

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

They're both really bad. Save up a little until you can afford a 600B or CX450M my friend.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

If it has to be between those two CPU's go with the EVGA because it has more reviews, and as you can guess, more reviews more trustworthy

inb4 someone comes in here suggestion another brand

Neither should be powering a discrete GPU... more reviews != better. The EVGA 400W has more reviews than the EVGA T2....

That said I was inb4 you :P

You know the forum, how fast people reply :P

But more reviews from a bunch of people mean typically a better product, hence more people buying it. Makes sense no?

I do agree neither should be powering a gpu xD  You shouldn't cheap out on a PSU, but if its on a budget, at least a 600b, it works any budget and I owned one and it worked hella well

And that I read elsewhere that Corsair is over rated and aren't as good as they are made out to be lol

Yeah, at times Corsair did seem to be "overrated". I mean I've seen people recommend the TX650v2 over the XFX ProSeries 650w because they say it's "vastly better", even though they are both based off of the same Seasonic AT platform, but the XFX offer better connectivity and was cheaper.

Anyways, I don't like using the term "overrated", as it can be rather dismissive - causing others not to recommend it. If you could find a Corsair or any other branded PSU of acceptable quality level at an excellent price, don't let the opinion of others make you not get it. The new, updated CX450M (not CX430/500/600) that had been recommended to you is much better than the two units that you are looking at for only ~ £5 more.

Was mainly looking at these because they were 80+ rated so thought they wouldn't be as shit as the one I currently have? lol xD

What is your maximum price range?

The Corsair VS series isn't the best product-line Corsair has to offer, but it should be stable enough for your system configuration. The VS line offers a three-year warranty, so you will at least have a piece of mind.

Corsair VS 550W -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-9020097-UK-VS550-Power-Supply/dp/B00TE4XSMA/ref=sr_1_86?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1464049911&sr=1-86

The CX line is a tier up from the VS products. The CX(M) is slightly better than the regular CX units in terms of build quality. Keep in mind this PSU only have one PCI-E 6+2 pin power connector.

Corsair CXM 450W -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-9020101-UK-CX450M-Semi-Modular-Bronze/dp/B01C3FFOHS/ref=sr_1_98?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1464050151&sr=1-98

Another decent one is the Fractal Design Integra power supply. Keep in mind this PSU only have one PCI-E 6+2 pin power connector.

Fractal Design Integra M 450W -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fractal-Design-Integra-Power-Supply/dp/B00LW2DIUY/ref=sr_1_118?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1464050151&sr=1-118

Of course, another long-time name in the PSU business is Antec (besides SeaSonic, FSP, etc).

The Antec VPF550 is not a top-tier PSU, but it is definitely not bad either -- closer to the mid-way point if you will.

Antec VPF550 550W (NOTE: the VP600P and VP500PC are lower tier units) -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-VPF550-Bronze-Power-Supply/dp/B00SSZK3AQ/ref=sr_1_121?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1464051748&sr=1-121
