Wait a little longer and get the GTX 1070 instead. Other than that, this build is probably the best you can get for the money, besides the fact that a 16GB kit is probably going to be a little cheaper and is actually guaranteed to run in dual-channel.

not a lot cheaper.  a $6 difference

Yep, 6600k is a k CPU so it is OCable and the MOBO is a z170 chipset so that's good too

Don't expect massive performance improvements with an air cooler but you should get at least 0.5 Ghz

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Edited my post. Also, two 8GB sticks aren't rated to run in dual-channel, so there's a chance you'll be stuck running them in single channel.

If it's an immediate necessity, the R9 390 is about 15% faster overall and pulls ahead by miles in DirectX 12 titles, all for the same price.

i personally have never ran into the issue of not running in dual channel, and even if it does, it'll impact performance 5%
