Hello,

So I have a big freeze dilemma on one of my builds. Here are the specs :

- EVGA 650 W : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B017NW4P1M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z Mobo : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B008RPZ3RA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- AMD FX9590 : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00DGGW3MI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Sapphire R9 290X 8G : https://www.amazon.fr/Sapphire-GDDR5-graphique-Radeon-PCI-Express/dp/B00T4547TC/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1463868093&sr=1-1&keywords=r9+290x+8g

- HyperX Fury RAM 2x4Go 1600MHz DDR3 : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00J8E93G6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Corsair SSD Force LX 256 Go : https://www.amazon.fr/Corsair-Disque-Force-SATA-CSSD-F256GBLX/dp/B00KGZNGIW/ref=sr_1_7?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1463868197&sr=1-7&keywords=force+ssd

- Corsair H60 : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00A0HZMGA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Corsair SPEC-01 :https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00L6AXHYO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Windows 10

- No OverClocking

I built it one week ago, it works, until I play. After 20-30min of playing a game, it freezes.

Here is what I tried so far :

- I uninstalled all the drivers properly, install new drivers from AMD, keep freezing

- Re-install a clean Windows, tried the drivers windows got me during install, then update them, keep freezing

(I have another build almost identical who works perfectly, what differs are GPU Sapphire R9 390X 8G, PSU Corsair RM850W, Cooler Corsair H110 and SSD Samsung EVO 250Go)

- Clone SSD from 2nd build, keep freezing

- Swap GPU, keep freezing

- Swap PSU, keep freezing

- Swap Ram, keep freezing

- Unplugged almost all peripherals except mouse and keyboard, keep freezing

- Add more power to MOBO/CPU with a 2nd cable from the PSU, keep freezing

- MemTest86 from USB, all OK, keep freezing

- Unplug cooler and CPU from MOBO and re-plug them again with new thermal paste, keep freezing

- Check bios, reset CMOS, keep freezing

And don't even know what to test anymore. I did not swap CPU and Mobo from both my build because it is already a lot of work and I don't really want to dismember all the other build again.

Here is how I can make it freeze or not :

- Playing Rocket League less than 1h: no freeze

- Plying Cyties Skyline less than 30min : freeze

- Plying Sims 4 less than 30min : freeze

- Stress test the CPU with prime95 and CPU-Z between 30min and 1h : freeze

During all my tests I checked temps and they were fine, CPU do not exceed 60°C.

So it seems that the problem comes from the CPU (or MOBO) but not sure, and how can I fix it ?

I am stuck and I really don't know what to do from here, do you have any idea ?

Thanks for helping me :')

a 290x + fx 9590 with only 650w!!!!!!, dude you need a better power supply for that system, at least 750w, evga is a good brand but that configuration is just too much for that psu, way too much

pcpartpicker.com advised me this one, and calculated a 609W usage.

I checked with an Elgato Eve the power consumption and it does not exceed 450W during games from the wall. I don't know anything about Watts and voltage tho..

But as I said in my post, it keep freezing with the other PSU, 850W

you are in fact right about the power consumption it's about 600w, BUT that does not mean that a 650w power supply is adequate, now i wasn't saying that the power supply was the problem i was saying that running that system with that psu is very dangerous

How are you cooling the VRM on the motherboard?

VRM on the  Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z have pretty good "things"(don't know the name) on VRM to dissipate heat.

I have 1 income fan and 1 outcome fan.

But most of my tests were with the opened case, I could tuch thoses things (power off after freeze) they were not hot.
