Hey LTT community,

So as of now, we have a somewhat simple computer dedicated to downloaded movies, tv shows, etc. and we're wanting to upgrade.

We're wondering if anyone has any suggestions as we're wondering if it is possible to make a small compact server that we can download it all to with a lot of accessible storage and then have another computer with plenty of RAM and processing power to use to watch it on our TV. Is this even possible and how could we do this properly?

Does anyone have any suggestions to how we could do this? I'm thinking hopefully we can do this for around $1300. No monitors needed but we want it to be well cooled and quite compact.

Thanks :)

a good server and home media pc will total to about 1700-2000 dollars unless if you are willing to cut corners. will the server be up 24/7?

Well we already have some HDD storage, windows and an SSD to put it on. I think we could cut some corners if it's necessary. I'm could be up 24/7 but I'm not too sure yet but it will be up a lot of the time.

Intel please. It's just a preference but if AMD would be better or better value, then we can go with it.

ok ive chosen amd for the server mainly because of the cores, there will be an endless list of people who will disagree but from my personal experience the more cores the better. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/cmrznQ

Thank you @another random person, i'll look into all of this. :)

Always remember, my recommendations aren't always the best in the world and there will be better, look into my recommendations and preferably not use it as a build guide. ;)
