If you have the money I would say go for it. But if you're not going to be doing intensive CPU work and it's just purely for gaming or just light editing I would just go with the 4670K.

CPU: Intel core i5 3570 Motherboard: Gigabyte-H77-DS3H Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB  GPU: MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB  PSU: Seasonic G Series 550W

If you're recording it might help a bit. Honestly, the only time I've seen a tangible performance increase between an i5 and an i7 in a game was Planetside 2. Even then, it wasn't too much.

Just gonna put this out there, if you aren't totally rebuilding a rig, the graphics card should be the first to go in your build.

But despite what everyone says, if you have the money and aren't sacrificing anywhere else, get the 4770K, With the new consoles having eight, although slow, processing threads, it might not be a bad idea.

Your rig is so unbalanced, yes you should get a decent GPU but it shouldn't affect the CPU so dramatically. You should have gone with an FX6300 or something

Yes your rig

I'm in the process of a rollout upgrade. The GPU is new from a 4890, and I'm waiting on a good deal for a 3570K and board. So at this point in time, it's unbalanced for good reason.

Ok as you stated before new games are going to take advantage of more cores so maybe consider a fx8350, but if you have to have intel get a 4670k

Naw, I'm going with Intel for sure. Wasn't happy with my last AMD chip in the least. I grabbed a 4100, ended up reverting back to my current i3 and give the 4100 to my parents.

FX4100 was their first gen and was horrible, and the 6 core version is like $30 more... honestly the FX8350 is a beast chip and i would strongly consider that.

I'll trade cores for a stronger per-clock.

I would look into this further considering an FX8350 smashes it in multi core processing and i have seen quite a few get to 5ghz, and some weren't even using custom loops.

Thing is, I will rarely if ever be able to run all cores on full blast. The most multithreaded thing I even do around here is converting audio files, and that's quick enough even on this dual core. I rarely do that too...

That's fine but do you really think applications will only use 1-2 cores? I think the FX8350 might be better for the future for gaming and general applications.

This is, for now, just a cpu/mobo upgrade. The 460s are still serving me well and i want to play on 32+ servers without having my frames go to hell. I would upgrade to an 875k but world of tanks LOVES single core performance and its like my favorite game, so that said, I will not be getting amd cpus. I would still like you guys feedback tho.

only get it if your upgrading from the core 2 series

My nahalem based chip is 30+% slower than everything past sandy bridge. World of Tanks is asking for better single core performance, and battlefield is wanting more cores.
