Reservoir + Pump questions.

Go to solution Solved by WunderWuffle,

Fans I can deal with changing, but the crossflow is important to me (I'm watercooling mainly for looks + a little better temperatures). I'll have a look at the performance differences in the radiators to see if it's enough of a difference to make me change. Thank you for your help.

Meh, okay. Also take a look at Black Ice CF Rads 360 and 240.

So, I'm planning my first custom watercooling loop and I've run into some things that I can't find the answer to.

First off, I am planning on using a simple tube reservoir and want to have the top as an inlet, but from some pictures, it doesn't look like there's a thread on the outside of the hole. This is the reservoir that I'm looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-318-BP&groupid=962&catid=2133

I'd flip it so that the end with 3 holes is at the top and use the metal tube to prevent splashes. I'm not sure if I can then use the other end to go straight out the bottom. Does anyone have any personal experience with this reservoir or can recommend one that does support an inlet at the top and outlet at the bottom.

Secondly, I'm not sure if the pump that I've found is going to be sufficient for the size of my loop. This is the one that I'm looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-104-EK&groupid=962&catid=2141

Will that pump be fine or should I go for a Liang D5?

Here's a picture to give you an idea of my reservoir layout and radiator sizes:

The only pumps that are worth it IMO are the Laing DDC and D5. Those are usually the most reliable pumps. Oh yeah, are there any reasons why you want to go with cross flow rads?

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

Simply to make the runs as short as I can. I couldn't find a way to fit standard radiators without having really long stretches of tubing or without ruining the aesthetics.

Well, what rads and fans are you going to be using? Most CF radiators have lower performance than normal rads.

This http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-097-XS and this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-095-XS

I'll be using Corsair SP120 performance edition fans. Maybe in push/pull depending if there's enough room for it.

I'm sorry, why are you trying to flip it? You want to have an inlet and a place to fill the res, so you're going to want the 3 holes at the top. (I own this res)

Nooooooo. Get yourself 1 Alphacool UT60, and a 240 UT60, or get some Black Ice rads.

As for the fans, you should get some Noiseblocker eLoops.

Yeah, I want the 3 holes at the top. What I'm wandering is if the single hole has a thread all the way through. In some images that I've seen, it doesn't look like it does.

I understand why he chose the crossflow rads, but I do agree. The Alphacool rads are much better.

All the holes are threaded. Here's a picture of it setup in my computer, if this helps. Let me know if you want some detailed pictures/ instructions.

Ah, I hadn't seen the Black Ice ones before. I'll probably go for those if I can find them in the UK. Thanks a lot, you're a great help.

Just found them on Specialtech.co.uk They're slightly cheaper than the XSPC ones too. Thank you, again.
