New PC No Sound.

NotOnTheGuestList

Hello,

My new rig is up and running but it has no sound. I went to the motherboard manufacturers site and downloaded the audio drivers but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know how to get audio?

Build for reference: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dmvHvK

Thanks.

Are you using your front panel audio jacks?  Any chance those are not connected correctly?  I really don't know... just something to check.

what does the "Sound" in control panel says?

It says there is only the monitor that is producing sound and says no headset is plugged in.

go into the monitors control panel and disable monitor speakers.

edit in reply to bios................ on boot up enter bios,. see what the sound is set to............. booklet that came with your motherboard will be very helpful.

I just plugged in USB Speakers and they work fine, should the headphones work or do I still need to plug in the HD Audio?

does the usb speakers use 3.5mm jack?

and the front audio ports MUST connect to the HD audio on the motherboard

connecting it wrongly might result in a damaged motherboard

Since you mentioned your monitor has speakers, I'm guessing your graphics chip is controlling the sound via the HDMI cable. Right-click on the audio icon in the tray and click playback devices. Right-click on the empty space and select both of the options there. You should be able to see something like HDMI Output or AMD High Definition Audio Device and hopefully your on-board sound (Realtek Audio Device). If this is the case disable the former and enable the latter. That should make the audio ports work if you plugged them in correctly!

You need to plug it in... You can't make sound without it plugged in...

Or use rear panel jacks.
