I've heard people say that a 21" 1080p monitor would have that same crispness as a 1440p 28" monitor due to pixels per inch. Is this true?

More or less true, but 21" monitor is really tiny. You are not able to see any details on this size, this is why it will look crisp.

https://www.sven.de/dpi/ -use this for yourself

1080 at 21" = 105 PPI

1440 at 28" = 105 ppi

4k at 41" = 107 ppi

Thats why 1440p is great for 25-27" displays, 4k is great for 34" up etc and 1080p should only be used on like 19-24" max

Do you think 1440p is worth it then? I have a 980 Ti @ 1500MHz so I can definitely drive my favourite games (Witcher 3, GTAV, Dark Souls 3) at above 60FPS, but is the cash worth it, that's the question.

Looks like I'll try and find a nice Freesync one to prepare for going back to AMD, and if NVIDIA ever supports the damn standard.

Now let's hope Witcher 3 never drops below 60. I know it averages 70 or so at 1440p with a mild OC, but anything below 60 is jarring to me.

Not sure how much money you have right now to drop on another graphics card, but on eBay recently, I've seen 980ti's going for ~$300-$400. SLI with your current card and you'll never drop below 60 fps on a 3440x1440 :)  But yea, 1440p is worth.

I just got a job at Subway. These are close to empty in Montreal so it'll be a nice time interacting with anyone that comes in. By mid summer I should have plenty for another 980 Ti. I guess.

I don't have an AMD card though... I sold the 390X in my signature a while ago. I'm just getting Freesync so when I do go back to AMD I have it ready.

i know but your 980ti will easily be able to push 2560*1080 at max settings. my 290 is doing quite good at that resolution.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

then just check out the freesync range. because some monitors only go down to 48hz and some 144hz ones will only go up to 90.

I have a 980Ti and play everything at 3440x1440 and rarely see below 45fps in AAA titles with everything maxed out. If I play without MSAA and set draw distances a bit lower, 60 is very possible on all but the most demanding titles (GTAV Maxed is where I see 45)

the thing is they haven't tried it personally they just judge by what they've seen from me messing on mine (it's broken now though, screen cracked... sad story) but going back to 16:9 is sad.. I miss the ultra wide experience, the games that supported it made it look so damn awesome! and in CSGO people called me a hacker because I could see farther left and right than they could.
