I agree that all those movies you listed were VERY good, but come on... it's BATMAN! Even though I agree it wasn't as good or as classic, the Dark Knight was still a VERY good movie IMO.

Because I only just looked at the score, I also only got "properly" interested in cinema about a year ago.

If you just now got interested in cinema then explain how American Beauty and Scarface brought out more of an emotional response than The Dark Knight? When I saw it, I was genuinely scared of the Joker. I feared for Batman's safety and sanity.

No, American Beauty is one of the greatest criticisms of the American Dream and" white picket fence" life yet. Purely because I recently started enjoying films doesn't mean I can't understand them. And I personally didn't really care for the character of Batman/Bruce Wayne because they didn't really develop his character and I also think that Christian Bale didn't fit Batman. The Batman character also didn't feel like Batman, I couldn't tell you why, but it just didn't feel right. I will also give you that the Joker, even though not traditional, was a good character and Heath Ledger did an amazing job.

I actually thought it was better than all of the movies OP listed (never seen American Beauty though). Not that I dislike any of those movies, I just thought the Dark Knight was more fun to watch.

I only really watch movies when I'm lazy, so I like movies that I can understand while my brain is running at 10% of what it usually does.

That's the second movie of a trilogy, you're supposed to watch Batman Begins first. And Christian Bale was perfect for that role, there's literally no one else who could have played Batman as well as he did. But hey, you can always wait for the next batman movie staring Ben Affleck, he will surely fit the character perfectly! /sarcasm

I personally think he's too well-held together ( if that makes sense) I think Bruce Wayne should be someone who is a bit more uncertain, a bit less confidence, hence why Batman exists. then again, that's just my opinion.

Bruce Wayne is not someone who is uncertain or unconfident at all, his ideals are very much set in stone and he would even go against superman and the justice league before giving them the slightest budge. Batman is what he uses to uphold those ideals as it is simply impossible to do it as Bruce Wayne, it was not formed out of his uncertainty at all, it's quite the contrary actually, batman was formed out of determination.

Interesting. I always saw Batman as Bruce Wayne having an identity crisis of sorts, I must say beating up poor people on your pants is one of the more "interesting" ways to deal with an identity crisis.
