Hello.

I am looking at building a nice modded minecraft server for around 15-20 players. I will be running 100mods-ish. I need some good parts to run that, so I am looking for suggestions. I have a budget of $575USD and I already have a case, hdd, gpu and cooler. I am looking to get an intel based processor. And if there is extra money, possibly an ssd???

Thanks,

Honestly, you should get an ssd before anything. I highly suggest you rent a dedicated machine off ovh.com. It includes high DDoS protection and very fast support.

• OS: Windows 10/10 Pro  • SSD: Samsung 256GB 850 Evo Series *  • HDD: Seagate 1TB  • GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X (SLI)
• CPU: i7-4790K OC 4.7GHz Quad-Core Processor • Case: NZXT H440 (Black/Red) • PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W
• RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory • Mobo: MSI Gaming 5

GPU is un-neccesary. MC servers mostly use the CPU, and GPU is left unneeded.

Save your power.

I knew that, I just have a spare 970 gtx. Probably not going to use it though

i spent about $150 and got a i5 2400 pc

i host a minecraft server with around 10 people

and a ark survival evolved server at the same time

so you dont need much for a minecraft server

but

you will need very good internet to have a server capable of having 20 people

If you are running this server off of a home internet connection then you might have issues with network speeds, you might be better off renting a server from a company with better internet.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

you got the right amount of dedidated ram? (I'm sorry I had to.)

but I think a SSD would really, REALLY, be best for you. also, what GPU? I'm no pro with servers, but I'm fairly certain you won't need such a powerful one for a server. (So if you do have one like a 970 or something, you could sell that, and get a used 750ti or 760? if someone could give their opinion on this, that'd be great. This is just me brainstorming.)

on to what you actually asked, you're running a server. That's going to be running minecraft with a shit load of mods. You'll need a good CPU, those mods will be tough on it and minecraft is actually pretty hard CPUs sometimes.

like I said, I'm not a expert with servers but my 2 cents is to get a i7 or a Xeon. currently in school, so I'll give it some research once I get home and get back to you
