I still don't understand the difference between a physical core and a logical core. Is there any difference because I'm buying the athlon 880k and wanted to know if there are any differences because it has 2 physical cores and 2 logical cores.

If a CPU has 2 Physical cores and 2 logical cores, that means its a standard dual core CPU, with 2 actual processors on one die, and no hyperthreading

If you had for example an I7 with hyperthreading, it would have 4 Physical cores, and 8 logical cores as each actual processor on the die can be used as the computer to do two tasks, they are called logical because they are only split via software, and not actually extra cores

Also the 880k is a quad core, so has 4 physical (aka 4 logical) cores

so basicly you will have 4 cores 2 physical and 2 logical.

Linus explained it in a techquicke vid where he said it's like if something has 1 physical core and 2 logical cores, it's like having 2 hands and 1 mouth, and you're trying to shovel in as fast as you can. It doesn't really effect you. For example, the main difference between an i5 and an i7 is the i5 has 4 physical and logical cores and the i7 has 4 physical cores but 8 logical ones. This essentially gives it 2 hands for every mouth to get things done faster. Don't worry about it for your CPU though.

It has 4 physical cores.
